Grand Summary
Without a doubt, COVID-19 virus has impacted people all
over the world. Besides the impact to people lives, COVID-19 pandemic has also
brought a lot of changes in how business organizations operate. One of the long-term
effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on workplace behavior is their shift to a remote
setup for their employees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the business have
shifted to a work-from-home setup. There are many benefits of the
work-from-home setup for both the employee and their employer such as an increase
in productivity, better work-life balance, fewer expenses, and a lot more. Based
on the findings of an ad hoc ECB survey of the leading euro area companies, they
said that work-from-home setups have increased the productivity of the
employees. Even though remote setups have increased productivity it is also
important to know if the employees are happy in this kind of setup. Based on
the survey they did, it shows that 72% of global knowledge workers prefer a
hybrid setup which includes work-from-home setup and in-office options. While
only 13% would prefer to work from home full-time and only 12% want to return
to full-time office environments. Because of the new hybrid setup,
organizations are now having more choice of talent since the employee will be able
to work from their home.
Another long-term effect of this pandemic on workplace
behavior is how we communicate with other people. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, social
restrictions have forced all of us to change how we communicate. During the pandemic,
we are not allowed to have face-to-face interactions which leads to the usage
of social media and video conference tools that are very useful for the
work-from-home setup. Today, most of us are back working in the workplace but most
of the organizations are still having their meetings virtually.
Analyzing the impacts of COVID-19 from a different
perspective, we can say that working from home has also presented a lot of
opportunities and we can say that workplace culture has also improved during
the COVID-19 pandemic. Through virtual meetings, we are able to develop new
relationships as we get to know the personal lives of colleagues and even
leaders, with a great sense of empathy and a greater sense of humanity. Because
of this, we can create a sense of belonging and maintain good levels of trust,
communication, and collaboration with our co-employees.
COVID-19 has also transformed the relationship between the
employees and their employers. A remote work setup has also some issues and
business organizations must understand how they will balance their business
sustainability and how they will support all the employee needs.
In my personal opinion, one of the long-term effects of the
COVID-19 pandemic on workplace behavior is the use of video conference tools because
it has a lot of benefits for all of us. It helps a lot of students to continue
their studies since most schools, colleges, and Universities have online classes
today which we never experienced before the pandemic. It also helps businesses
to have their training, meetings, and collaboration virtually because it is
easy to use.
